Set in the former Dhanmondi residence of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh, this museum preserves the house where he and much of his family were killed in 1975. Rooms are kept largely as they were, displaying personal belongings, photographs and documents that trace the independence struggle and Mujib's political life. Bullet marks and preserved interiors give the visit a sombre immediacy. As a site of national memory, it draws visitors seeking to understand the country's founding and one of its defining tragedies.
