The national mosque of Bangladesh, Baitul Mukarram in central Dhaka is among the largest mosques in the world by capacity. Completed in the 1960s, its cubic main structure evokes the form of the Kaaba, departing from the domed tradition of South Asian mosque design. The complex can accommodate tens of thousands of worshippers, with additional space filling surrounding plazas during major prayers. Set amid a busy commercial district, it functions as both a principal place of worship and a symbol of the nation's Islamic identity.
