The surviving fragments of this old mud-and-stone fort recall the origins of Bengaluru under the chieftain Kempe Gowda and its later expansion by Hyder Ali and Tipu Sultan. A restored gateway, sections of rampart and the Delhi Gate stand amid the dense old city, near the summer palace and a historic temple. Interpretive signage explains the fort's role in the 18th-century wars between Mysore and the East India Company. Though much diminished by urban growth, the ramparts preserve a tangible link to the city's founding.
