A lavish nineteenth-century estate built by one of Taiwan's wealthiest merchant families, combining an ornate residential compound with a scholar's garden of pavilions, ponds, and covered walkways. Completed in stages from the 1850s, it survives as the island's finest example of traditional Chinese garden architecture in the southern Fujian style. Latticed windows, moon gates, and rockeries frame carefully composed views. Now a heritage site, it offers guided tours of the reception halls and landscaped garden.
