An octagonal red-brick building at the heart of Ximending, completed in 1908 as one of Taiwan's first purpose-built public markets under Japanese rule. Its distinctive eight-sided front hall, joined to a cross-shaped rear structure, was designed to channel crowds and fortune. After decades as a market and cinema, it reopened as a cultural venue hosting craft stalls, a creative bazaar, and small performances. The surrounding plaza has become a gathering point for the city's queer community and independent designers.
