The seat of Taiwan's presidency, a striking red-and-white Renaissance-revival structure completed in 1919 as the office of the Japanese Governor-General. Its central tower rises above a symmetrical facade arranged, seen from above, in the shape of a Chinese character. Damaged by Allied bombing in 1945, it was restored to become the Republic of China's presidential headquarters. On selected open days the public can tour the marble lobby and history exhibits, while the broad Ketagalan Boulevard in front hosts national ceremonies.
