A grand memorial complex on the slopes near the Grand Hotel, dedicated in 1969 to the soldiers who died in the wars that shaped the Republic of China. Modelled on the palace halls of the Forbidden City, it centres on a sweeping ceremonial courtyard and a red-columned main hall honouring hundreds of thousands of fallen troops. The hourly changing of the honour guard, performed with rifle drill and precise slow marching, is a principal draw for visitors. Sweeping views open toward the Keelung River and the city beyond.
