The Osaka Museum of Housing and Living recreates an entire townscape of the city as it appeared in the early nineteenth century, built at full scale on an upper floor of a modern building. Visitors walk through recreated merchant houses, shops, a bathhouse, and streets beneath a painted sky that cycles through dawn, day, and dusk, with changing sounds and lighting. Displays trace how ordinary Osaka homes evolved over the following centuries. Guests can rent kimono to stroll it, and the immersive setting evokes everyday life in old Osaka.
