Housed in a grand neoclassical building beside a landmark department store in the historic Nihonbashi merchant district, this museum displays the art collection amassed over centuries by a great trading and banking family. The holdings are especially rich in tea ceremony utensils, paintings, calligraphy, and a set of masterful miniature Noh-mask carvings, including several national treasures. The elegant early twentieth-century setting, with marble columns and coffered ceilings, complements the refined objects on view.
