The first large public planetarium built in China, opened in the mid-twentieth century near the western zoo and later expanded with a modern glass wing. It presents star shows under a domed projection theater along with exhibits on astronomy, space science, and telescopes. Interactive displays, digital sky theaters, and occasional public observing sessions serve both school groups and general visitors. As a pioneering institution of popular science, it holds a notable place in the country's educational history.
