Named after Mei Lanfang, the legendary twentieth-century Peking opera performer famous for his female roles, this theatre near the Second Ring Road opened in 2007 as a modern showcase for the art. Its curved glass facade glows at night, while inside a richly decorated auditorium seats around 1,000. The programme centres on classic Peking opera, honouring Mei's legacy and repertoire, alongside occasional other traditional performances. A small display area recalls Mei's career and his influence on the art of Peking opera.
