A grand princely residence beside the northern lakes, home in the late Qing period to an imperial prince and birthplace of the last emperor of the dynasty. The extensive compound of halls, courtyards, and a fine garden with ponds and rockeries reflects the privileged life of the highest nobility. Parts of the estate later served government functions, while the garden section has at times opened to the public. Its lakeside setting and link to the final imperial family give it particular historical resonance.
