A grand exhibition hall in the northwest built in the mid-1950s in an ornate Soviet-influenced style, crowned by a tall gilded spire topped with a star. Its symmetrical wings and columned facade enclose halls used for trade fairs, cultural shows, and displays of industry and science. A large theater and a long-established Russian restaurant occupy parts of the complex. As one of the most complete surviving examples of the period's monumental architecture in the capital, its distinctive silhouette rises beside the zoo.
