Komarovka is the best-known market of Minsk, centred on a large domed hall built in the modernist style of the 1970s and ringed by open-air stalls. Traders sell fruit, vegetables, meat, dairy, honey, flowers and preserves, much of it from surrounding farms, and whimsical bronze sculptures of market characters dot the surrounding square. Long a hub of the city's daily life, it is as much a social gathering place as a place to shop. Visitors come to sample regional produce, watch the bustle and photograph the striking sweep of the market roof.
