This is the largest art museum in Belarus, holding tens of thousands of works of national and foreign art in a columned neoclassical building in central Minsk. Its galleries include medieval icons, portraits of the old nobility, European old masters and a strong collection of national painters and sculptors. The museum grew from a modest gallery founded before the Second World War, rebuilding after wartime losses. Visitors follow a broad survey of the country's art.
