Derzhprom, the State Industry Building, is a landmark of constructivist architecture completed in Kharkiv in the late 1920s. Built from reinforced concrete, it rises in stepped blocks linked by sky bridges around one side of the enormous Freedom Square. At the time of construction it was among the tallest and most technically advanced structures in the region, a showcase of the era's faith in industry and modern engineering. It remains in use for offices and is studied by architects worldwide as an important early example of the movement.
