This museum in central Kaunas presents the military history of Lithuania alongside displays honouring national heroes. Among its most famous exhibits is the wreckage of the aircraft Lituanica, flown across the Atlantic in 1933 by two Lithuanian-American aviators who died in the attempt. The complex includes a carillon tower and adjoins a garden with monuments and an eternal flame. Standing in the city's cultural quarter beside an art museum, it forms part of the ensemble that made interwar Kaunas a symbol of the independent state.
