This national institution below the castle hill in Vilnius presents the archaeology, ethnography and history of Lithuania across several historic buildings. Its collections include prehistoric finds, folk costumes, coins, weapons and everyday objects that illustrate the life of the nation over many centuries. A statue of King Mindaugas, the country's medieval founder, stands nearby. The museum's arsenal and adjacent buildings sit at the foot of the tower on the hill, close to the physical remains of the old ducal stronghold above.
