This white monument of three linked crosses crowns a hill overlooking the old town of Vilnius. A memorial has stood here for centuries in memory of monks said to have been martyred on the site, though the crosses were demolished under Soviet rule and rebuilt after independence. The hilltop, part of a wooded park east of the castle, is reached by paths and steps that reward walkers with one of the best panoramas of the city, taking in the cathedral, spires and river below.
