This reconstructed Renaissance palace beside Vilnius Cathedral stands on the site of the original residence of the rulers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. The medieval palace was demolished in the early nineteenth century, and the present building was rebuilt in the early twenty-first century over the excavated foundations. Its museum displays archaeological finds, tapestries, armour and restored ceremonial halls that evoke the courtly life of the state. Standing at the foot of the castle hill, it links the city's medieval and modern chapters.
