This distinctive concrete structure was completed in 1988 as a museum to the communist dictator Enver Hoxha, designed by a team including his daughter. After the fall of the regime it served variously as a conference centre, broadcast facility and nightclub, becoming a contested symbol of the past. Long left to decay and covered in graffiti, the sloping ramps became a popular spot for locals to climb. A major renovation transformed it into a technology and cultural centre.
