Known as the Vijećnica, this ornate building beside the Miljacka River is the most celebrated example of pseudo-Moorish architecture in Sarajevo, built during Austro-Hungarian rule. Striped facades, horseshoe arches, and a stained-glass central hall evoke Islamic design filtered through Habsburg imagination. It later served as the national library until shelling in the 1990s siege gutted the structure and destroyed much of its collection. Reconstructed and reopened, it now hosts exhibitions and ceremonies as a symbol of resilience.
