This pedestrian promenade is the main shopping and social artery of central Belgrade, running from Republic Square toward the fortress. Lined with elegant nineteenth-century buildings raised by wealthy merchants and civic institutions, it is protected as a cultural monument. Street performers, cafés, and bookshops fill the paved corridor, which follows a route used since Roman and Ottoman times. Strolling here, known locally as the korzo, is a long-standing ritual that captures the everyday rhythm of the capital.
