This lavishly decorated Art Nouveau palace was built in the early twentieth century to house the national university library and now serves as the Croatian State Archives. Owls, symbols of wisdom, perch on the ornate roofline, while stained glass, sculpted figures, and gilded detail fill the reading rooms and staircases. Designed as a temple to learning, it stands among the finest Secessionist buildings in the country. Guided visits reveal frescoed ceilings and one of the most elaborate interiors accessible to the public in Zagreb.
