The largest museum of modern and contemporary art in Croatia occupies a striking purpose-built complex in the Novi Zagreb district south of the Sava River. Opened in 2009, its collection spans post-war Croatian and international movements, with strong holdings in new media, conceptual work, and the experimental EXAT 51 and New Tendencies groups. A permanent installation lets visitors ride a stainless-steel slide by artist Carsten Höller between floors. Broad glazed facades make the building itself part of the statement.
