The Chindia Tower rises within the Princely Court of Târgoviște, the former capital of Wallachia, and is strongly linked to the ruler Vlad the Impaler who reinforced it. Standing over twenty-five metres tall, the round brick watchtower once served as a lookout, bell tower, and gunpowder store. A spiral staircase leads to a gallery with views over the ruins of the palace and the surrounding town. It shelters a small museum on Vlad Țepeș and remains the emblem of a city central to medieval Romanian history.
