Peles Castle was built between 1873 and 1914 as the summer residence of the Romanian royal family, set in a forested valley of the Bucegi Mountains near Sinaia. Its German neo-Renaissance architecture incorporates over 160 elaborately decorated rooms, a glass-roofed courtyard, and carved oak interiors containing paintings and weapons from across Europe. The surrounding park with its fountains and terraces provides framing views of the castle's many gabled towers.
