Catherine's Gate is the only surviving medieval gateway of Brașov, built in 1559 in the Schei quarter's fortifications. Its central passage is flanked by four slender corner turrets, a symbol that the Saxon town held the right to pass capital sentences. Above the gate a coat of arms and inscriptions recall the guilds who maintained the walls. It stands beside the newer Schei Gate and near the entrance to the Romanian quarter, forming part of the well-preserved defensive circuit that once encircled the town.
