The Ludwig Museum is Hungary's leading institution of contemporary art, housed within the modern Palace of Arts complex on the Pest bank of the Danube. Established from the collection donated by German patrons Peter and Irene Ludwig, it displays international and Central European art from the 1960s onward, including works by American Pop artists alongside regional avant-garde movements. Rotating exhibitions and a permanent collection trace the shift from state socialism to the present in the redeveloped southern waterfront.
