The Kiraly Baths are one of Budapest's original Ottoman thermal baths, begun in the 1560s inside the former city walls so that bathing could continue even under siege. The historic core preserves a domed pool lit by star-shaped openings in the ceiling, evoking the atmosphere of a classical hammam. Unlike some of the city's baths, the Kiraly is not built over its own spring but supplied by water piped from nearby sources. Its intimate, dimly lit chambers offer a strong sense of the Turkish bathing tradition that shaped the capital.
