The Astronomical Tower rises from the heart of the Klementinum, the vast former Jesuit college beside the Charles Bridge in Prague. Completed in the mid-eighteenth century, it was used for astronomical and meteorological observation, and Prague's continuous weather records date from here to 1775. A statue of Atlas bearing a celestial sphere crowns the roof. Visitors climbing the tower pass historic instruments and emerge onto a gallery with one of the finest panoramas of the Old Town's rooftops, spires, and the river below.
