The Cathedral of St. Mary Magdalene is a tall brick Gothic church east of the market square, its twin towers joined by a high footbridge known as the Penitents' Bridge. Legend holds that unmarried women who broke promises must walk it after death, and today visitors climb for a panorama over the city. The church preserves a magnificent Romanesque portal reused from a demolished abbey, richly carved with biblical scenes. Now a Polish-Catholic cathedral, its elevated walkway makes it a distinctive landmark.
