Perlan is a domed structure built atop hot-water storage tanks on a wooded hill overlooking Reykjavík, combining infrastructure with a public attraction. Beneath its glass dome, exhibitions on Icelandic nature include a re-created ice cave, displays on glaciers, volcanoes and northern lights, and a planetarium. The blend of engineering, natural-history exhibits and sweeping views has made it a distinctive landmark rising above the surrounding parkland.
