The Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum in Turku preserves a district of wooden houses that survived a devastating nineteenth-century fire, now presented as an open-air museum of old trades. Set along narrow lanes on their original sites, the modest homes and workshops recreate the crafts and daily life of an artisan community. During the season, demonstrators practise traditional skills such as printing, pottery and weaving in the authentic surroundings.
