Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova

Aboa Vetus & Ars Nova is a combined museum in Turku that unites underground medieval archaeology with a gallery of contemporary art in a single institution. During construction work, excavations revealed the remains of medieval streets and buildings, which are now displayed in situ beneath the modern galleries. This layering of the medieval city and the contemporary art scene gives the museum an unusual character rooted in the history of Finland's former capital.
