Haga is one of Gothenburg's oldest districts, laid out in the seventeenth century and known for its rows of low wooden and brick houses built in a characteristic local style. Once a working-class suburb threatened with demolition, it was restored in the late twentieth century and turned into a popular pedestrian quarter. Its cobbled main street is lined with cafes, craft shops and bakeries famous for oversized cinnamon buns. The mix of preserved timber architecture and small businesses makes it a favourite place for strolling near the centre.
