This wooded hillside park east of central Oslo combines a sculpture collection with archaeological sites, meadows and sweeping viewpoints over the city and fjord. Works by modern and contemporary artists are placed along winding forest trails, encouraging slow exploration rather than a fixed route. Bronze Age rock carvings add historical layers, and the elevated terraces are said to have inspired the setting of Munch's most famous painting. Cafes and a heritage restaurant occupy restored buildings near the main entrance.
