Once the lakeside fishing harbour of Lausanne, Ouchy is now the city's waterfront district, reached from the centre by a steep metro line. A long promenade lined with plane trees and flower beds runs beside the marina, busy with the paddle steamers that cross Lake Geneva to French and Swiss ports. A medieval tower survives from the old castle, and the Olympic Museum stands on the slope just above the shore. Cafes, rowing clubs and the constant traffic of boats give the quays a relaxed, resort-like feel through the summer.
