This narrow house in Zurich's old town is the birthplace of Dada, the anti-art movement founded here in 1916 by a group of exiled writers and artists during the First World War. Their chaotic performances of nonsense poetry and noise music in the small back room gave the avant-garde one of its defining moments. After years of neglect the building reopened as a cultural venue with a bar, a shop and an exhibition on the movement's origins. It still hosts readings and concerts in the same intimate rooms.
