The parish church of St. Peter sits on a rise in Zurich's old town and is the oldest church foundation in the city, with a choir dating to the thirteenth century. Its tower carries the largest clock face in Europe, its minute hand stretching well over three metres, once used by the city as a fire watch station. The bright Baroque nave, rebuilt in the early eighteenth century, contrasts with the plain Romanesque tower base. Standing between the Lindenhof and the Limmat, it anchors a warren of narrow lanes lined with guild houses.
