This Renaissance monastery near the university was among the first Christian religious houses founded after the reconquest of the city. Its church, completed in the sixteenth century, holds the tomb of the celebrated general known as the Great Captain beneath a soaring frescoed vault behind an elaborate carved and gilded altarpiece. Two tranquil cloisters planted with orange trees adjoin the church. The building marks the transition from late Gothic to full Renaissance style in the newly Christianized city.
