This rare survival of a medieval Nasrid merchants' inn stands in the city center, the only such building of its kind preserved intact in Spain. Built in the fourteenth century, it served as a warehouse and lodging for traveling merchants, arranged around a central courtyard behind an ornately carved horseshoe-arch portal. After the reconquest it was used variously as a theater and a coal depot, which gave it its name. Restored in the twentieth century, it now hosts cultural events and exhibitions.
