This imposing fourteenth-century gateway was one of the principal entrances through the medieval walls of the city, built in a robust Gothic style with two polygonal towers flanking a central arch. It later served as a prison for nobles and as a store for valuable artworks during wartime. Visitors can climb to the upper battlements for views over the old town and the former riverbed gardens below. The monument remains a focal point of the city's spring festival celebrations.
