This square crowning the Quirinal Hill fronts the presidential palace and offers one of the finest panoramic terraces in Rome, looking out over the domes and rooftops toward St. Peter's. At its centre rises a fountain incorporating an ancient obelisk flanked by colossal marble statues of the horse tamers Castor and Pollux, brought from the nearby Baths of Constantine. The open, elevated setting and the ceremonial guard before the palace lend the square a stately air.
