This early Renaissance basilica near Piazza Navona holds several notable works within its bright, harmonious interior. Caravaggio's Madonna di Loreto, showing barefoot pilgrims kneeling before the Virgin, hangs in a chapel to the left of the entrance and caused a stir for its earthy realism. Raphael frescoed a figure of the prophet Isaiah on a nave pillar, and Jacopo Sansovino carved the venerated Madonna del Parto near the door, its foot worn smooth by centuries of touch.
