The only major Gothic church in central Rome, this Dominican basilica rises behind the Pantheon on the site of an ancient temple once thought to honour Minerva. Its blue vaulted ceiling and pointed arches are unusual in a city dominated by Baroque and Renaissance interiors. The Carafa Chapel holds a fresco cycle by Filippino Lippi, and Michelangelo's statue of Christ the Redeemer stands near the altar. The tomb of the painter Fra Angelico and remains of Saint Catherine of Siena also lie within.
