Linking the Louvre to the Institut de France, this pedestrian bridge was the first iron bridge built in Paris in the early 19th century, conceived as an elevated promenade over the Seine. Reconstructed after damage, its wooden deck and benches make it a favoured spot to watch the river and the passing bateaux. For years it was famously laden with love padlocks until their weight threatened the structure and they were removed. Painters and photographers are drawn to its open views toward the Île de la Cité.
