This smaller triumphal arch stands between the Louvre and the Tuileries Garden, built between 1806 and 1808 to celebrate Napoleon's military victories. Modelled on Roman triumphal arches, it is faced with pink and white marble and decorated with sculpted reliefs of his campaigns. A chariot group crowns the top, replacing the horses of St Mark's that Napoleon had originally placed there. Aligned with the grand historical axis, it frames views toward the Champs-Élysées.
