Occupying a wing of the Louvre palace along the rue de Rivoli, this museum is devoted to design, decorative arts and craftsmanship from the Middle Ages to the present. Its period rooms and thematic galleries display furniture, ceramics, glass, jewellery, wallpaper and textiles, alongside a celebrated fashion and advertising collection. Reconstructed interiors show how French taste evolved through the reigns of kings and the rise of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. Temporary exhibitions regularly spotlight leading couturiers and product designers.
