On the boulevard Raspail in Montparnasse, this contemporary art foundation occupies a luminous glass-and-steel building designed by the architect Jean Nouvel. Its transparent facades dissolve the boundary between the galleries and a wild garden of trees planted around a surviving cedar. The foundation stages bold exhibitions spanning painting, photography, design, film and science, often devoted to a single artist or theme. Evening performances and talks animate the space, making it a hub for experimental culture on the Left Bank.
